Queen Street West · Toronto · Open Tue–Sun

A cannabis room on Queen Street West. Canadian craft cultivators, knowledgeable staff, and a chair near the front for the regulars.

Common Room is a single-location dispensary built around the idea that buying cannabis can be a relationship, not a transaction. Ninety SKUs at peak, drawn from twenty Canadian craft cultivators. A leather chair near the window. A small lounge in the back for members.

01 · This week’s picks

Three SKUs from the wall, signed by the staff who picked them.

Every week three staff members pick a current SKU they’ve been recommending to their own people. The picks appear on the shelf in cream-and-red shelf-talkers, signed at the bottom. Here they are this week.

Cara’s pick

Boundary OG

Tilden Mountain Farm · BC

Cured 21 days. Heavier evening profile. Slow burn. If you liked the Mendo Sunset last month, this is the cousin.

Tomás’ pick

Papaya Punch

Whistler Cannabis Co. · BC

Bright tropical terps, lifted daytime feel. New cultivar from a small Whistler farm. Limited to 24 jars this month.

Daniel’s pick

Sisters Sunrise

Tantalus Labs · BC

Sativa-lean, lemon-pinene profile. The one I’d give a first-time visitor returning to cannabis after a long break.

02 · What a visit looks like

Four steps. No timer.

01 · Arrive

Take the chair

If the front chair is open, please use it. A staff member will greet you within ten seconds. There’s no need to be standing at the counter.

02 · Talk

A 15-minute conversation

For new visitors, a structured five-question chat: history, current interest, sensitivities, budget, and the next twelve hours. The staff member uses what they hear to walk you to two or three SKUs.

03 · Browse

The wall, by region

The shelves are organized by Canadian region: British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia. Each SKU carries a staff-written shelf-talker with cultivar notes and a picker’s initial.

04 · Leave

Cream bag, signed card

You leave with a cream-paper carry bag, a printed staff-pick card with the picker’s initial, and (after your second visit, if it’s a fit) an offer of a member card.

03 · Three commitments

What every visit promises.

A curator, not a cashier

Hired from hospitality

Every staff member comes from specialty retail, wine, or hospitality — never from commodity cannabis. Six-week onboarding before solo counter time. Trained on cultivators and terpenes the same way a wine merchant is trained on producers and varietals.

A selection, not a catalogue

Ninety SKUs at peak

Twenty cultivator partners across four Canadian regions. SKUs rotate monthly based on harvest. No SKU stays on the wall just because it sells. Editing is the work.

A room, not a counter

Warm light, no timer

Warm-tungsten brass lamps, no fluorescent. Maple wood throughout. No transaction-time targets on the staff. You leave when you’re ready, not when you’re processed.

04 · The Room

A small members program. Not for sale.

The Room is the back-corner lounge and the membership program both. A small soft-red leather club chair, a maple side table, a built-in bookshelf with curated publications. Members may use the lounge during open hours — no purchase required.

Membership is not paid. It is offered by staff to customers who have visited three times and engaged in real consultation. Cap is 800 members at launch, growing 200 per year. Discount is never part of the offer.

  • Priority access to limited-release cultivator drops
  • Use of the back lounge during open hours
  • Quarterly tastings: solventless masterclass, terpene flights, cultivator visits
  • Quarterly print newsletter, mailed or hand-delivered
  • Recognition: staff will know your name by your third visit as a member

What members do not get

Discounts. We don’t discount.
An app. The membership runs on a physical card and the staff’s memory.
Marketing email. Members opt in to the print newsletter only.

If the model sounds slow, that’s the model. Common Room is a relationship, deliberately.
