02 · What a first visit looks like

Three commitments. Made in writing.

You will be greeted within ten seconds

Not because we have a script. Because someone is paying attention to the door. The greeting may include an offer to take the chair near the window while we walk through what we have.

The consultation is 15–25 minutes

For first-time visitors, a structured five-question chat: history, current interest, sensitivities, budget, and the next twelve hours. The staff member uses what they hear to walk you to two or three SKUs on the wall — never more.

You leave with a curated kit

A cream-paper carry bag, the products you chose, and a printed staff-pick card with the picker’s initial. If you engaged in real consultation, you’ll be offered a member card on your second visit.

04 · The founders

Two people from specialty retail.

Co-founder · Curator

Eleanor Whyte

Former proprietor · West End Cellar · 2014–2022

Eleanor ran the West End Cellar — a Toronto specialty wine merchant on Roncesvalles — for eight years before transitioning to cannabis. She built the shop’s curated-import program, its monthly newsletter, and its small members’ tasting series. She moved to cannabis in 2023 after deciding the category had the same shape of opportunity wine had had a generation earlier. She handles cultivator relationships, monthly SKU rotation, and staff training.

Daniel Park

Former senior merchandiser · Indigo Books · 2013–2023

Daniel spent ten years at Indigo, ending as a senior merchandiser responsible for the staff-pick programs and the curated front-of-store rotations across the Toronto flagship stores. He brought to Common Room the entire vocabulary of staff-written shelf-talkers, picker initials, and the "front-of-store conversation" rhythm that Indigo built around its booksellers. He handles operations, retail floor, and the membership program.
